New York man killed and 3 injured at construction site wall collapse

A man was killed and three others, including the victim's brother, were severely injured when a cinder-block collapsed at a New York City construction site on Monday.

Reports indicated two workers were on top of the wall, which was 18 feet tall and 65 feet wide, while two others were on the ground under the scaffolding when it began to collapse around 9:30 a.m. "When the wall came down, two were on the top and they were able to ride the wall down, which probably saved their lives," said Corcoran. On the other hand, the two men who were beneath the scaffolding were not so lucky.

The victim's wife was expecting their third child and the other three workers suffered trauma and fractures.

The building that the workers were on had six violations since 2009, for things such as leaving equipment on the sidewalk and failing to post appropriate sign. A deputy commissioner has also mentioned that if the concrete was applied in an improper fashion, there might have been spaces in it, which could have potentially made the cinder-block unstable and ready to fall. Investigations are expected to be underway.
