A jury awarded nearly $1.9 million to the family of a woman who died of a pulmonary embolism that came from her calf, two days after an ultrasound failed to reveal a blood clot. Yvonne Weissman, 50, had been experiencing headaches. Several months later, a neurologist found that she had left calf tenderness and bilateral ankle swelling. Weissman went to Radiology Associates of Ocala for a doppler ultrasound. After she was informed there was no clot, she was sent home. Two days later, her husband found her dead in her bathroom. Plaintiff's counsel contended that the clot was missed because the technologist never obtained adequate images of Weissman's left popliteal vein and made no effort at visualizing her left posterior tibial vein.
